Getting Started
Setting a fundraising goal
Your fundraising goal is the total amount you need to raise. Setting the right goal builds donor confidence and helps you reach your target faster.
Calculate your actual costs
Before entering a number, list every expense you need to cover. For a medical campaign this might include: consultation fees, surgery costs, medication, hospital stay, and transport. Add them up for your total.
Be specific and realistic
Set a goal that reflects your real needs. Donors are more likely to give to campaigns with clear, justified goals. Avoid rounding up to large numbers without explanation.
Enter your goal amount
In the campaign creation form, enter your goal in UGX (Ugandan Shillings) or USD. The minimum goal is UGX 10,000. There is no maximum.
Account for the platform fee
Ubuntu Pool deducts a 10% total fee from each donation (4.5% transaction + 5.5% platform). If you need an exact amount, set your goal slightly higher so the fee still leaves you at your target.
You can still receive donations above your goal
Once your campaign reaches its goal, it does not automatically close. Donors can continue giving and all funds above the goal are available for withdrawal.
Update your goal if needed
You can edit your fundraising goal at any time from your dashboard. If your costs increase (e.g. additional medical procedures), update your goal and explain the change in a campaign update.
Tip
Break down your costs in your campaign story. Donors who can see exactly where their money goes are far more likely to give, and to share your campaign with others.
